Hi. I’m Jim Zartman. I’m in the right place doing the right work with the right people. It took a long time to find the path. It was confusing and painful at times. I wouldn’t trade it for the world because I’ve designed the life I have now and it’s beautiful.
My life is guided by a simple question. “What do I want to see more of in the world.” The answer to that is the motivation for everything I do. I want people to be fully seen, welcomed as they are, and empowered to move forward. That is what I want every person who works with me to experience. Book and Enneagram Typing interview here. The Art of Growth has been a leader in the Enneagram space since 2018, with a chart-topping podcast, a client list that runs from startups to Fortune 100 companies, and listeners and clients across the globe. That reach — through the podcast, corporate work, one-on-one coaching, and online assessments — has let them do more research than most, refining the language of the Enneagram in the most modern way. That same research has also gone deep on the Instincts, revealing the impact of the full instinctual stack. Their certification program is now ranked one of the best in the country. Cofounded with Joel Hubbard.
My 2023 EP of 4 songs featuring just cello, acoustic guitar, and vocals.

I’m happy in this photo. I often tell people my whole body settled when I moved to the north shore of Boston. I was no longer in conflict with my environment. What I’ve been learning over the last several years is “grace over force.” I’ve tried to force so many things in my life and tried to fit in where I clearly didn’t. The best things in my life have been the result of grace. They have come through beauty and wonder. It’s been hard work but it’s been hard work in the right direction. I’m moving with the waves now. I’m riding a new rhythm. I’m writing and speaking from the voice that had always been mine but it was drown out by the expectation of others. This is what it’s like to get free.
The last couples years have included a lot of writing work. The work is to own my voice, what I want to say, in a way that makes sense for me to say it. Little things I need to remember and maybe you do as well. Many of these have been short poems that sum up an idea I have. Someday I may even collect them all in a book. Below are a few snapshots into that writing and into the way I think, coach, write, and speak. Some of these were things I said while coaching and I wrote down later… because I needed them.
This is something we say in my Group Coaching with The Art of Growth. It has to be this way to move forward.
Someone wisely told me. We often make decisions based on what we want to do, what we want to make, where we want to be… but the best decisions are made on the WHO.
